Over the past five years, Ms. Barnett’s trade projects have included:
- Trade Advocacy. Representing a multinational food
company, in seven countries of the MENA, to greatly increase market shares
by resolving trade barriers, building in-country government affairs networks,
and developing investment packages. Programs have included:
- Drastically reducing tariff levels;
- Negotiating an investment incentive
package to build a now $50 million manufacturing plant;
- Changing protectionist laws and regulations that limited
imports and stopped market growth;
- Lifting ad hoc and unwarranted product bans;
- Reversing lawsuits that have been "irregularly" prosecuted.
Market Entry: TBG represented a global
cosmetics company in entering the Egyptian market. Tasks have included:
- Successfully registering hundreds of new products;
- Resolving termination of labor issues
- Reducing taxes on sales
- Developing corporate social responsibility programs with senior
government officials.
Trade and Investment Promotion: Created Egypt, Inc.,
a major initiative to increase trade and investment for the Ministry
of Foreign Trade, Government of Egypt which included a worldwide assessment
of Egypt’s commercial services for its companies, a commercial
website, and a series of national outreach programs in the U.S.
Trade Strategies: Providing a 0-5 year strategic
plan for an international telecommunications company, including an economic,
political, and commercial analysis of the telecomm industry throughout
the Middle East and a focus on eight priority markets.
Bilateral Ventures: Negotiating a joint venture agreement
for a large international high-tech fund based in Egypt, and a U.S,
telecomm company for cooperation in the MENA region.
Government Contracting: Becoming a contractor for
the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and winning a contract to conduct
an orientation visit to introduce U.S. technologies to the Minister
of Communications and his business delegation.
